I haven't kept track, but: 1) is 4.x now recommended for all cases (i.e. 3.x no longer better for file serving?)
An explanation shall be found on https://lwn.net/Articles/469792/ . -----Original Message----- Jan, you wrote "shall be found". That sounds like there is an ongoing discussion there, or that the answer can be found. However. the original article is from 30-nov-2011, and the latest reply on it is dated from 4-jan-2012. Earlier this year, feb-2013, at FOSDEM, it was said that you can migrate seemlessly from MS A.D. towards samba4, and (for some sysadmins more important) seemlessly also back again. Only drawback for some they said, was that samba4 had closely integrated all subfunctions, and you could no longer use separate tools like openldap and kerberos. Only exception was (when configured properly) bind. And there were (at that time) no plans for enabling the use of those other subfunctionalities... Since fosdem quite some months has passed and things might have changed. hans -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
