First, it is called tracker (it is a fdo project, not a GNOME one) and it has not been a CPU consumer for years now (it runs only on idle time).
Sorry if I mixed tracker with Gnome family, in any case it has been a serious problem in the past as being one of the most avid resources consumer, so much that many users decided to uninstall from their machines.
