You should *ALWAYS* make backups, irrespective of Tumbleweed upgrades. But that's besides the point. The only issue identified is getting the new live image, putting it on CD/USB and installing a fresh system from this. All other cases, including a regular "zypper dup" from within the system, is not known to cause any issues.
