All, Where did the 'wheel' system group (GID 10) go? Both sudo and pam.d/su rely on it being present. If wheel is "deprecated" it should still be there until it is "removed" which isn't likely. Even then, the "sudo" group (the undeprecated replacement) should be present, but it too is absent. Now with visudo, you have: ## Uncomment to allow members of group wheel to execute any command # %wheel ALL=(ALL) ALL ## Same thing without a password %wheel ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL (but no wheel group in 15.1) And for /etc/pam.d/su in order for members of wheel to be able to su without a password you need: auth sufficient pam_wheel.so trust use_uid auth required pam_wheel.so use_uid (but no wheel group for pam_wheel.so -- which is present, and after manually adding a wheel group works as it is intended) So, where did the "wheel" group roll off to? -- David C.
