PAT testing ( A bit off topic but maybee you can help )
I know this is very off topic, but were all computer tekies and electricity rules our world. So. I am trying to find out who does who's PAT electrical testing, Who test's your equipment? Is it in house ( By whom ) Contracted ( To whom ) Cost? Does your LEA offer a service? Does anyone know how to test systems with soft power buttons? Any recommendations on KIT? Ta Robin
At Warlingham School (when I was there and so far as I know still) do their own testing as a function of the Science technicians Dept. Soft power buttons haven't been noticed as a problem. The kit is dead simple but expensive and there are several options on the web. Of course, I forget who the manufacturers were, now, but I think they had an outlet in Tunbridge Wells (Kent) or nearby.
Who test's your equipment?
Is it in house ( By whom ) Contracted ( To whom ) Cost? Does your LEA offer a service?
Does anyone know how to test systems with soft power buttons?
Any recommendations on KIT?

Hi, We do our own inhouse PAT testing. In order to carry out this kind of testing some kind of electrical qualification is needed. Our tester is made by a company called Seaward, model 1000S These testers sell for about £778 http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/browse/Module.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1658861090.1025031572@@@@&BV_EngineID=cadcegldjhdfbemgcfkmcfjldhn.0&3202484462=3202484462&catoid=-99769171 Our local authority do offer a PAT testing service, which is charged (as far as I know) per device. As for computers with "soft power" buttons, what you are testing is the PSU which is directly connected to mains surply, so only the rocker swich needs to be on. You do how ever have to be careful with the test performed, skiping the insulation test, as this has been know to damage computers (this won't happen if you get a PAT tester designed for use with IT equipment) Hope this helps Regards Marcus Birkin On Monday 24 June 2002 10:55 am, s-clarob@st-aidans.cumbria.sch.uk wrote:

Hi Marcus et al, This is something that's going to affect large numbers of us I think. What kind of Electrical Qualification are you talking about? Our authority offers a testing service priced at some ridiculous price per unit so we'll be doing it internally ourselves. Alan Marcus Birkin wrote:

The regs seem to be different for each area (which is odd). But some kind of "city and guild" basic level or HSS Hire (www.hss.co.uk) do a PAT testing course, and also hire PAT testers. If you contact your authoritys building works/electrical they should be able to advise you. Marcus On Wednesday 26 June 2002 9:42 am, Alan Harris wrote:
