openSUSE:Tools repositories for RockyLinux
Please could you add RockyLinux_8 and RockyLinux_9 build targets for the openSUSE:Tools project. I see that this will also require creating a project RockyLinux:9 Thanks! -- Magnus Lewis-Smith Senior Linux System Administrator / Scientific Computing, RTP https://warwick.ac.uk/research/rtp/sc/

That is unnecessary. You can use the CentOS Stream 8/9 targets for this or the AlmaLinux 8/9 targets. Both are fully compatible with all RHEL 8/9 distributions. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth!

As an alternative, we requested and got AlmaLinux9 https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/AlmaLinux:9 And you also have openSUSE:Tools for AlmaLinux9: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Tools Since AlmaLinux9 is binary compatible with RHEL, it should also be binary compatible with Rocky Linux9, and in fact we use AlmaLinux9 to build the Uyuni client tools for all RHEL9 binary compatible OS. We decided to avoid CentOS9 Stream because strictly speaking is not a RHEL clone, as described at https://www.centos.org/centos-stream/
Continuously delivered distro that tracks just ahead of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) development, positioned as a midstream between Fedora Linux and RHEL. For anyone interested in participating and collaborating in the RHEL ecosystem, CentOS Stream is your reliable platform for innovation.

For all practical purposes, the only place where this is a problem is the kernel because the kABI is not guaranteed across point releases. All userspace stuff remains compatible with RHEL. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth!

True! But there's still some people which want 100% the same RHEL has at a certain point in time, both for running and building. So having AlmaLinux 9 at OBS makes sense and does not hurt anyone. As the CentOS pages says itself, Stream is a bit ahead of RHEL.

I'm aware, and am in fact using the Alma repos on my rocky installations. It was just for consistency -- Magnus Lewis-Smith Senior Linux System Administrator / Scientific Computing, RTP University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL, UK https://warwick.ac.uk/research/rtp/sc/
