http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=997294 Bug ID: 997294 Summary: Plasma doesn't start on first boot if user has password(no autologin) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Workspace (Plasma) Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: aders1234@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hi. I have the same problem with logging on few PC's. If user has password and autologin is disabled, then at first boot(after locking session it's normal) when user enter pass and click 'Login' image frezees. But if I wait a few seconds and click Ctrl + Alt + F1, then again Ctrl + Alt + F7 system is booted and works great. Yes, it's from "failed" login attempt.
Ok, and I suppose that error message is not in there when it works, right? (it's right at the top in line#3)
With xdm system boots good without troubles.
And which one did you use before? Was it from the standard Tumbleweed repo or do you use additional repos maybe? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Error message is in logs even with xdm, but system starts normal. Logs with xdm: http://paste.opensuse.org/20179178
Hm, then this "error" seems to be harmless after all. So, which login manager did you use before? The problem seems to be there then. And other questions that I have then: You say that the image freezes after clicking "Login". So is Plasma actually started at all? That .xsession-errors-:0 you posted at the beginning may just as well be from a successful login before. Either check the file creation date, or remove it (after logging out, before rebooting) to make sure it is up-to-date. And does this also happen if you choose a different session at the login screen, IceWM e.g.? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

(In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #5) Plasma started at all always, but when I use sddm, I should open console mode(ctrl+alt+f1), then again graphical(ctrl+alt+f7) and plasma workspace appears active.
So it does start "in the background", only the screen is not updated? Would rather sound like a graphics driver problem then I think. Which graphics driver are you using? Is that the same on all affected systems? Does booting with "nomodeset" help?
Should I make new log from sddm boot?
I don't think that would help in this case. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, it does start in the background always. No, I think it doesn't problem with graphic driver, because on this PC I have Intel Graphics with standard driver and settings, on second PC is AMD APU and standard driver. I'll try with "nomodoset" und write about it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With "nomodeset" parameter system starts good, but resolution is 1280x720 and I can't change it.
So it does seem to be related to the graphics driver somehow. Though it's probably unlikely that both radeon and intel would have the same "bug" that causes such a problem. OTOH, it does not happen with the fallback driver (likely fbdev), so it's not really a general problem in sddm either. Assigning to Xorg for now, maybe they have a clue how to investigate further. Feel free to re-assign. Btw, you didn't answer this one yet: does it also happen with IceWM, or only Plasma5? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

(In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #11) It also happens with Icewm.
Do you use icewm with lightdm or sddm? If you are not using it with lightdm, could you try this, please? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
