When setting up a dummy network interface using yast it is not functional afterwards.
There seem to be two issues:
Yast creates /etc/modprobe.d/50-yast.conf with the following option: options dummy -o dummy-nil
BUT loading the module fails "FATAL" [74685.227467] dummy: Unknown parameter `-o'
The second thing is that nothing in YaST and/or netconfig takes care of actually loading the needed module because when I fixed/removed the option I still couldn't start the interface using rcnetwork start dummy0 until I loaded the dummy module myself manually.
Reproducible: Always
Hi Wolfgang, when you say: "until I loaded the dummy module myself manually." Can you actually add more than one (1) dummy interface manually? It's fine when I execute: modprobe dummy ifconfig dummy0 But subsequent execution of these commands doesn't add any other dummy interface at all. Any idea? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In my tests,
The patch actually loads the module when configure dummy interface from yast-lan, so it is not necesary to do it manually anymore; but it isn't setting the IP address properly.
After I add the dummy interface through yast-lan, configure it with a static IP address, then check with "ifconfig dummy0" or "ip addr show dummy0" and there is no IP assigned. Not even when I run "ifconfig dummy0 up" "ifup dummy0".
I still have to set the IP address via "ip address add IFADDR dev dummy0".
Yes, thanks -- the script has to be added to /sbin/ifup too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
