[Bug 852432] New: Cinnamon network settings doesn't work
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=852432 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=852432#c0 Summary: Cinnamon network settings doesn't work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: i@marguerite.su ReportedBy: mgonnelly@suse.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: Consulting Blocker: --- I installed Cinnamon from the x86_64 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Cinnamon:/Factory/openSUSE_13... repo. Neither the network manager applet nor the network settings panel seem to allow changes. For example, in the applet I can see a list of wireless networks but clicking on them has no effect. Similarly, in the settings panel I can't change anything. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Settings panel is a Cinnamon stuff. Can you run `cinnamon-settings` from command line and paste me the output? It maybe because I developed those packages on a GNOME virtual machine, so I missed to add some dependencies because they were already there. I'll try to reproduce it in a new VM and give a fix :-) Thanks again. Now I can try to reproduce the bug. And I'm planning to add a patterns-openSUSE-cinnamon subpackage to do the init work. Some times ago, things like that happened for cjs: a package is installed, rpm and yast can list its files, but those files are acutally not there on your disk. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I managed to fix the problem that: network setting panel doesn't show up along with other panels in cinnamon-control-center package. It's because: Upstream used a fixed path "/usr/lib/cinnamon-control-center-1/panels" in /usr/lib/cinnamon-settings/bin/capi.py. You're running a 64bit openSUSE, right? That's an old stupid bug...I have it fixed in cinnamon package, just don't know why it wasn't in RPM. You can run: sudo sed -i "s/lib/lib64/" /usr/lib/cinnamon-settings/bin/capi.py to fix it yourself for now (feedback needed). I'll see to what happened on OBS that caused the fix wasn't included in final RPMs. 2. About you can't click to change anything in networking panel, I can't produce it myself. But I guess your NetworkManager.service wasn't even started at that time. It's an openSUSE 13.1 regression, due to the eth0 -> random names change in udev, many new/updated openSUSE boxes didn't have NetworkManager.serivce running until you run: sudo systemctl start NetworkManager.service and even edit /etc/resolv.conf to give it two DNS nameservers. You can run: sudo systemctl status NetworkManager.serivce to verify it (feedback needed 2). On my minimal X window VM, it was tranditional ifup network until I changed it. But Cinnamon uses NMClient for networking, so you can't change anything without a running daemon.
