https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1206457 Bug ID: 1206457 Summary: Leap 15.5 loses grub2 function with recent updates?? Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Leap 15.5 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader Assignee: screening-team-bugs@suse.de Reporter: non.space.1@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Been having a run of problems with grub2 in now two of my Macs, filed a bug report on that issue where TW wiped grub menu AND now a second machine has had grub2 function removed, such that Super Grub2 disk is needed to boot the Leap 15.5 option. In this case there is only one linux system installed that grub needs to find, but machine boots to "emergency grub mode" . . . showing "grub 2.04" . . . but I thought grub was now supposed to be 2.06??? Filed a post about it on the new forum . . . . https://forums.opensuse.org/t/leap-15-5-loses-grub2-function-with-just-itsel... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Today, with no recent upgrades run through . . . it boots to grub rescue?? Seems like it's very difficult for openSUSE to keep a stable grub file?? In this case the machine's only grub listing is Leap 5.5. Had to boot again via SuperGrub2 flash drive. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Seems like I once again spoke "too soon" on this grub2 problem, as once again grub errors out via "Moklist not found" . . . even though yesterday the machine booted to grub just fine.
The "Moklist not found" is very unlikely a grub error and most likely shim.
Today, with no recent upgrades run through . . . it boots to grub rescue?? Seems like it's very difficult for openSUSE to keep a stable grub file?? In this case the machine's only grub listing is Leap 5.5.
The problem is not unstable grub but your MBP system seems to boot invalid efi entry from time to time in that firmware and linux efi boot manager is more related. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

@Michael: OK, thanks for the reply on it. So, in other words, this problem will likely come and go, due to the Macintosh "inner nature"?? Still, the intermittent behavior is irritating . . . . I believe that in some of my opensuse installs, "we" (at yr suggestion) did lock shim at some point, maybe a year ago?? Not sure if I did that in this install of Leap . . . . Back into the monitoring of it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
