[Bug 1084827] New: email links in forum "Reply to thread" notices open Corrupted Content Error page instead of forum page
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827 Bug ID: 1084827 Summary: email links in forum "Reply to thread" notices open Corrupted Content Error page instead of forum page Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE.org Version: unspecified Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Infrastructure Assignee: mrueckert@suse.com Reporter: mrmazda@earthlink.net QA Contact: lars.vogdt@suse.com CC: per@computer.org, suse-beta@cboltz.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Problem: email links in forum "Reply to thread" notices open Corrupted Content Error page instead of forum page email list thread that produced no useful response: https://lists.opensuse.org/heroes/2018-02/msg00008.html error message:
Corrupted Content Error The site at https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/530041-Leap-42-3-nouveau-pointer-... has experienced a network protocol violation that cannot be repaired. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
These forums@microfocus.com email links always work if pasted into the urlbar and the trailing "?goto=newpost" is removed before proceeding. This highly annoying web accessibility impediment started happening routinely around the first of this year. IIRC, around that time, around 6 months after I updated from 42.1 to 42.3, there were some significant Nuremberg infrastructure changes. To cause these links to load the error page instead of the intended destination requires no particular action or inaction I've been able to pin down. It routinely happens while I have various B.O.O. bug pages loaded, among them saved searches, one or more of which have remained loaded across browser restarts, and may or may not have been used in recent hours or minutes. There may or may not be any open wiki or forum pages on restart, but there will nearly always have been at least one of them open in logged in state within the past 24 hours. I rarely have the browser closed except briefly for daily backup or when I log out for zypper system updating. I always start browser by loading previous session, which always has well over a hundred tabs. Since browser restarts usually cause logging out from login.microfocus.com, I typically switch to one of the open B.O.O. tabs to force re-logging in by clicking on a saved search link shortly after a browser reopen. Often I remember to check that I remain logged in before trying to open an emailed forum link, after which the link is less likely to produce the error page. Unless I've relatively recently been active on a forum or wiki page, the most likely result of the attempt is the corruption error, unless I have one or more open and recently touched forum or wiki page with a visible "log out" link. The browser I virtually always use for BOO, forum and Wiki Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.49.2 has NoScript extension set to always allow opensuse.org pages. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you still see this problem, can you please give me a detailed reproducer? Also, deleting your cookies is always worth a try. BTW: The forums are hosted in Provo, so the changes in Nuremberg should be unrelated. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827#c2 Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flags|needinfo?(mrmazda@earthlink | |.net) | --- Comment #2 from Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> --- It happened first thing this AM after arising from the night's sleep and finding a fresh forums@microfocus.com email. I hadn't remembered to reload the open B.O.O. saved search buglist first before clicking its link. After I got the error page, I remembered to click the saved search link, which dutifully brought up login.microfocus.com. After the fresh reload of the saved search page I clicked the try again link in the error page and the forum page loaded. openSUSE.org is just about the only place where cookies ever become any kind of obstacle to web functionality here. I never change cookie settings from however they get shipped. Thus I never think about cookies except when someone on an opensuse.org mailing list of forum makes a suggestion to delete them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827#c3 --- Comment #3 from Christian Boltz <suse-beta@cboltz.de> --- Ah, that might explain why I can't reproduce it - I tested with a "fresh" login. IIRC the login cookie is valid for about 14 hours, so maybe you slept too long ;-) and probably had an "expired" login cookie. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827#c4 --- Comment #4 from Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> --- Again. Again I didn't think to check if I had been logged out first. After the error page loaded, I clicked a B.O.O. page saved search link, and was not redirected to login.microfocus.com before the saved search page loaded. Subsequently going back to the error page tab and clicking try again continues to retain the error page. Trying links from saved forums@microfocus.com mails also load the corrupted content error page. Which cookies am I supposed to delete, microfocus.com? suse.com? novell.com? bugzilla? build? connect? en? en-test? forums? features? hermes? lizards? news? old-en? openqa? opensuse? progress? software? status? www? I tried *microfocus*, but it didn't help? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It displays link "Log Out", not link "Login". The email link on the links' parent page, which is minus "?goto=newpost", loads right up. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Why aren't these either kept fully in sync, or entirely divorced? I'm still routinely subjected to this comment 0 problem, and getting involuntarily logged out multiple times virtually every day. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1084827#c12 --- Comment #12 from Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> --- I almost always have at least one B.O.O. page open. Typically it's two or three custom searches plus whatever the current bug(s) of interest happen to be. It's annoying slow finding and waiting on the same pages to load from scratch over and over again. Another reason is clicking novell.com and suse.com links in list mail opens 404 pages instead of the desired bug, so I type in the mailing list's bug number into one of my already open BOO pages. But too often I first have to reload a search list tab, to force the login to update before the bug page loads in a logged-out, missing data state. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Can you show me an example? Maybe a posting in the archive with such links. I have never seen those links fail.
They fail purposely due to my workaround for bug 863582 The continues to frustrate. Even when I refresh B.O.O. to ensure its login persists, opening a fresh email link will produce the corrupted content page unless I've also refreshed a forum page in between the B.O.O. refresh and the link open attempt. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I see something similar from RSS feeds. If my browser is not logged into the forums (has never logged into the forums) then all is okay. If I have just logged into the forums in that browser, then all is okay. If I logged into the forums some time ago and my login is near expiring, then I see this problem. When I see it, I go to the main forum page in another tab, and I login there if it does not show me as already logged in. I can then retry the failed page (with the retry button on that page) and it now works. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
