[Bug 297591] New: yast2 online_update uses undocumented status symbol ( grey checkmark)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=297591 Summary: yast2 online_update uses undocumented status symbol (grey checkmark) Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Markus.Kuhn@cl.cam.ac.uk QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=155616) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=155616) screenshot showing both the undocumented grey checkmark and the symbol documentation As the attached screenshot shows, the "yast2 online_update" screen sometimes shows a grey checkmark in front of some of the offered patches. There are two problems with this: a) This grey checkmark is not explained in the "Symbols Overview" menu that one gets displayed when pressing Shift-F1 or selecting Help|Symbols. It is completely non-obvious to me what it could possibly mean. b) It is also completely unclear to me, why these patches are displayed at all, because when I click on one of the patches marked with a grey hook (e.g., "privoxy" in the screenshot), the right-hand side display shows that the available version and the installed version are identical. In that case, I would expect that the patch disappears from those listed in the "Patches" filter, because there should be no point in me installing the patch. The "grey checkmark" feature at least should be documented properly in the on-screen help or replaced with a more meaningful indicator, if it serves any purpose at all. If not, then why display the mark and patch at all? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

All that is missing is patch metadata -> b) therefore it makes sense to install the patch and that's why you see can see the patch among other installable patches. This is done on purpose (see bug #223416) and it's completely correct behavior. However, I agree it is not documented in the related help text (except for this 'satisfied' status, we also have a small icon to indicate that patch is broken - both have missing documentation). Assigning to Stefan, but he's on vacation right now, so it will take some time to get this fixed -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
