[Bug 1157910] New: Strange behavior of sound system with fluidsynth driven by musescore
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1157910 Bug ID: 1157910 Summary: Strange behavior of sound system with fluidsynth driven by musescore Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound Assignee: tiwai@suse.com Reporter: freek@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- I am using musescore, which uses the sound system with fluidsynth. When I start musescore right after booting and play a piece with notes I hear a distorted sound. This sound plays the notes following a cursorlike indicator on the screen, however about a second later for the second time the notes are played again; so two times the tune is played; the second one with a delay of about one second. When exiting musescore and later starting it again and starting playing the notes, these notes are played with a normal sound, but are about one second delayed compared to the cursorlike indicator on the screen. Leaving musescore alone for some time, not exiting it, and start playing the notes again, the sound is as expected; the delay of about one second is gone. Note that I did not do anything with reconfiguring the sound system. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I cannot reproduce this with latest musescore on 15.1.
I tried musescore on 15.1 and there was no problem, so it is specific for Tumbleweed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Under "View > Synthesizer" you can set the soundfonts. It looks in the folder that is set in "Preferences", which default to ~/Documents/MuseScore3/SoundFonts/ You can either add the path to the default one in openSUSE for soundfonts: "/usr/share/sounds/sf2" or copy a soundfont in that folder. Then you can load them in the synthesizer windows. A couple of soundfonts are installable through Yast/zypper.
I found the soundfonts and now have both /usr/share/sounds/sf2 and /usr/share/mscore-3.3/sound in the SoundFonts default. After that I can have three files in Synthesizer: MuseScore_General.sf3, FluidR3_GM.sf2 and FluidR3_GS.sf2 of which the last one does not give any sound when the instrument is the piano; did not try another instrument. The MuseScore_General.sf3 is the largest, so most likely contains the most instruments. While experimenting with these soundfonts there was no delay between the moving cursor and playing the notes. However after closing MuseScore and starting it again the delay reappeared. Looking at the volume indicator in Synthesizer, this indicator is in sync with the moving cursor, while the sound lacks behind. Again after waiting, did not try anything for at least 30 minutes, the delay is gone. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So, it does not seem to be related to a specific soundfont or playback option.
I do not know how to help here. If it is in musescore and not in the system itself, I refer to upstream.
I could not find a bug tracker system on Musescore, any hint? I am stuck. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
