[Bug 904289] New: ideapad_laptop kernel module hard blocked wifi
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=904289 Bug ID: 904289 Summary: ideapad_laptop kernel module hard blocked wifi Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: brioscaibriste@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- On my lenovo yoga 2 13" (not pro), I am having an issue with the ideapad_laptop module. This laptop does not have a wifi hardware switch or bios setting to control it's on/off status. When I install any linux distro, the wifi adapter gets hard blocked, as per the rfkill output: 2: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes This cannot be reactivated in Windows using the wifi on/off or lenovo tools, it simply sees the device as switched off. POSSIBLE FIX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have not been able to re-enable the wifi using opensuse 13.1 or 13.2. I have only been able to re-enable it using fedora 20, by updating to the latest kernel, then running the command "rfkill unblock all". I believe Fedora have patched their kernel, can this be done in the opensuse kernel? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1021036 I have investigated this issue and it appears to be similar but not identical to other bugs [ https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54361 and https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43007 ]. If all else fails I will attempt this, to modify and rebuild the kernel module: http://askubuntu.com/questions/434547/wireless-hard-block Other than that 13.2 is a blast so far :D -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not kernel-obs-build but kernel-desktop (or whatever matching with your running kernel flavor). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Meanwhile I backported the fix patches for Yoga 2 and Yoga 3 to openSUSE-13.2 and stable branches. YOu can try later KOTD, the kernel package in OBS Kernel:openSUSE-13.2 repo.
Absolutely fantastic work Takashi! I removed the blacklist from /etc/modprobe.d/50-blacklist.conf , installed the new kernel [3.17.2-2.g3788128-desktop] and restarted, it works perfectly well! I didn't even need to do an rfkill unblock. Thank you very much :]! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
