http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1067697 Bug ID: 1067697 Summary: VirtualBox update to 5.1.30 breaks virtualbox - files owned by wrong userids - root is 100 and 1000 and missing from /etc/permissions Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: llrainey15@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After doing today's critical updates - unable to start Virtualbox after it upgraded from 5.1.28 to 5.1.30. It states that many files are wromg owner and root permissions it says root is 100 and 1000 and user is not a member of virtualbox users. I did force zypper back to Virtualbox 5.1.28 and issue persisted. Went to yesterdays tar backup and restores /etc/permissions and /usr/lib/virtualbox and that allowed me to restart my virtual machines. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I booted into Leap 42.2 and did a normal update. VirtualBox started normally, To further test, I used YaST to remove all VirtualBox packages, and then reinstalled them. Again, VirtualBox started normally as my normal user. File /usr/bin/VirtualBox (Note spelling) is present, owned by root:root, and has permissions 0755. That is what is expected. Files /usr/lib/virtualbox/VBox* are present and also have the expected owners and permissions. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With KDE, it was automatically updated, but perhaps not on MATE systems. Using YaST, force a reload of that package. Perhaps that will help. If it does not, I may be able to access your machine using teamviewer late next week. My wife is having surgery on Tuesday, which ties me up early in the week.
