[Bug 940500] New: Gramps 4.2.0 fails to start
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=940500 Bug ID: 940500 Summary: Gramps 4.2.0 fails to start Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: hacker@scarlet-jade.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Installed latest version of Gramps from Gnome:Apps repo. Tried to start it but it failed so ran it from console and got the following messages: ++++ .gramps.gen.utils.grampslocale.WARNING: ICU not loaded because No module named 'PyICU'. Localization will be impaired. Use your package manager to install PyICU cairo python support not installed. Install cairo for your version of python Gramps will terminate now. ++++ The PyICU module does not exist in OSS or Gnome:Apps. Not sure what Cairo module is needed; half-a-dozen likely modules are installed including python-cairo. I've back-tracked to the version on OSS, 4.0.4, but this is not compatible with the earlier 4.1.n versions I'd installed from Gnome:Apps. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The fix for this is already in GNOME:Apps for a couple hours again :)
pyicu is an optional dependency.. which is not important.
what you are ACTUALLY missing is python3-cairo (which is by now already set as a requirement in the package). please re-install gramps 4.2.0 and retest.
Done that and is working but . . . On launching, I got the following message: ++++ GTK translations for the current language (en_GB) are missing. Gramps will proceed nevertheless. The GUI will likely be broken as a result, especially for RTL languages! See the Gramps README documentation for installation prerequisites, typically located in /usr/share/doc/gramps. ++++ Since I'm only using en_GB, this warning seems a bit of a red herring and can safely be ignored. It's just not one I've seen before. A new feature perhaps? Thanks for quick fix. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks for quick fix.
I've seen this message as well on my en system.. it CAN be worked around by installing the package gtk3-lang, but it's quite silly and stems from a check to find a lang file in a place it does not forcibly have to be... I'll likely just remove this check from our packages... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
