So I added GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=i915.force_probe=4628 in /etc/default/grub and then $ sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg In this way the external monitors were (not all) recognized but some apps does not work like VLC and apps for video conferencing where video of those apps starts to flashing... If I remove GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=i915.force_probe=4628 those apps worked properly but I was unable to recognize any external monitor via HDMI. I also tried with backports repo before moving to 15.5 alpha but it's not enough. Now, with 15.5 alpha version my /etc/default/grub is: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash=silent preempt=full mitigations=auto quiet security=apparmor" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" and when I plug in HDMI external monitors seem to recognize and work but not an "ACER CB282K" monitor. However, the VLC problems seem to be fixed, in fact I am able to reproduce video correctly. When I use apps for video conferencing, they work but sometimes appear some line within their window (these visualization issue are confidend to the app's window), not affecting the whole display. These issue are persisting also after update and reboot(s). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Just by plug in HDMI cable. 2. Just by open apps. 3. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Attach the log here and I'll have a look. However, since you're using a stable kernel it's likely that this is an upstream bug that should be reported to Intel directly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Anyway I noticed also this issue. I was participating to a video call and in the desktop where I had the app all were very very slow. I mean every other program that I tried to run and moreover for example when I press on/off the caps button the led related to that button is not responsive. I hope this "problem" will be fixed soon in the new version. :) I'm going to upgrade to SUSE 15.5 beta. Thanks! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For example when I play a video by VLC it works but if I want to resize its window or move it or just use the terminal or do anything else the system slows very very very down ... For your experience, this is a problem related to the current lack of updated driver or it is a general problem of an integrated graphic board. It's first time that I have an integrated graphic board, in this case the Intel Alder Lake, and it's quite important not only for me to know whether I have to share this havoc for a short time or for eternity (returning the PC to the sender). I apologize if I am boring you but it is a really really really annoying situation. Thanks in advance! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239#c13 --- Comment #13 from Felix Miata <mrmazda@earthlink.net> --- It's most likely drivers, not integrated graphics. All my newest computers have integrated graphics, one with AMD, the rest with Intel, among which Haswell (2), Kaby Lake (2), and Alder Lake's predecessor, Rocket Lake (1). Your problem should be cleared up before long, unless you have some hardware defect that no software can work around. My Rocket Lake needed a workaround for several months following acquisition. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

How can I exclude that is a hardware problem. For my experience It's quite tricky. For example some external monitors work when were connected to my PC. Which kind of test can I perform to exclude a hardware problem? Thanks in advance! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239#c15 --- Comment #15 from Luca Bas <luciano.bastianelli56@gmail.com> --- In order to "try" to rule out that the problem is hardware, I've just tried to boot my PC selecting the Windows partition. I noticed that also in Windows all external monitors work, except for the ACER CB282K. I tried to download Windows driver(s) for that monitor but I did not find anything so far. Can I do more tests in Windows to rule them out hardware issues? I wait for SUSE drivers or fixing bug but in the meantime I would like to rule out a problem given by the hardware. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239#c16 --- Comment #16 from Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.jakobsson@suse.com> --- Sorry for the late reply, I ended up in bed with a cold. The logs doesn't contain the information I expected. I wonder if drm logging has changed recently. I need to investigate. If the i915 driver is not loaded for your GPU then there will be no hardware acceleration for video playback or your desktop environment. Everything will run on the CPU. And since this is a mobile platform it will be slow. If we get the GPU driver working properly I would assume that things will be fast again. However, since the ACER CB282K is not working in Windows, I don't suspect we can get it to work in Linux either. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239#c17 --- Comment #17 from Luca Bastianelli <bastiabrn@gmail.com> --- Created attachment 865363 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=865363&action=edit output of some commands Dear Patrick, thanks for your support! I updated the OS (Leap 15.5) to the last version with latest update/upgrade. Attached I reported some commands' output. I tried also with glmark2; when it was running all applications in that desktop went very very slow... whereas if I switch the desktop everything it's ok. Regarding the ACER monitor I solved that issue... after several attempt with many PCs I changed the HDMI cable and now it works... :) It's quite strange because it is the same model I replaced it with. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1208239#c18 Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.jakobsson@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution|--- |INVALID --- Comment #18 from Patrik Jakobsson <patrik.jakobsson@suse.com> --- Hi Luca, Again, sorry for they late reply. From your logs I can see that the Intel driver is properly loaded. I'm not sure if the benchmarking numbers are sane or not since I don't have a similar system to compare with. intel-gpu-top shows an idle GPU but perhaps that is because you didn't have a GPU load running when capturing the output. Since this bug is about HDMI not being properly recognized I think you should file a separate bug for the performance issues. The reason HDMI was not properly recognized at first was that 15.4 didn't support ADL-P. And the problem with 15.5 was a bad cable. I think we can close this bug. Please reopen if you feel differently. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
