[Bug 876109] New: Incorrect Italian translation in yast2-trans-it
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876109 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=876109#c0 Summary: Incorrect Italian translation in yast2-trans-it Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 13.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 13.1 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Translations AssignedTo: ke@suse.com ReportedBy: aloisio@gmx.com QAContact: ke@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 File oneclickinstall.it.po, the string "Malicious packages could damage your system.\n" is rendered as "Pacchetti malefici potrebbero danneggiarlo.\n". In my opinion, "malevoli" would be a better translation for "malicious" in this context. "Malefici", unless said in jest, has too much of an occult or supernatural undertone. Independently on the final choice, I doubt it will be corrected for oS 13.1 (unless there is another round of translation updates).
I'll update the translations, if we collect enough bugs; this works as follows: 1/ Fix it, then assign it to me. 2/ I'll create a "(YaST) translation update wanted" bug, and add this bug as a "blocker" to it. 3/ We must add other issues to this "(YaST) translation update wanted" bug. [If you and other translators just close those bugs, I do not know whether a general translation update is worth the effort.] -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Mmm... I know that it sounds strange, but according to two Italian dictionaries (Garzanti and Treccani), "malefico" is more appropriate than "malevolo" to describe something that can make damages to the system.
Look, I'm not advocating that particular translation: "dannoso" could be another one, although it loses the implication of deliberate harm. However both http://www.garzantilinguistica.it/ricerca/?q=malefico and http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/malefico/ mention sorcery or diabolical intervention. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

After a short discussion with the other translators, I have changed it to "malevolo". What do you think about "maligno"?
I doesn't sound adequate to me. It's in the same league as "malefico" on one hand and "backbiter" in the other. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
