I first enabled the 13.1 debug repos so far in yast2, but what debug packages would I need to install? I think this kde crashreporter used to be of more service in the past in a different bug and it proposed by itself which debug packages to fetch and installed them or triggered them for me back then. Maybe I need to restart this whole box and it might then advise me to fetch some debug packages then? Any more hints? Confirmed, deleting the two default launchers (Dolphin and Firefox) did correct the plasma desktop shell crashes on login. I put two icons back via Kickoff by navigating to the application, right clicking, then selecting "Add to Panel". No crash with those in place. The two launchers I removed looked more like running task bars - they were rectangles that filled the empty space on the task bar. The two launch buttons that I added back are small widgets. Hm, now I'm confused: qvector.h, line 474 contains Q_ASSERT(asize <= aalloc); But asize IS <= aalloc in my backtrace: #0 QVector<int>::realloc (this=0xbfffe66c, asize=1, aalloc=2) at tools/qvector.h:474 So I think I set the breakpoint wrong, sorry. They don't have launchers in the taskmanager by default, but after adding them manually (I even tried to copy over the plasma-desktop-appletsrc from openSUSE) plasma still doesn't crash. I just installed openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 4, 32-bit, KDE 4.10.97. The plasma crash does not occur. I can't confirm this on current Factory unfortunately. After running "zypper dup" today, plasma still crashes on login. Are you sure you have those taskbar launchers which disappear after clicking on

I installed from a DVD iso on a USB flash drive, formatting the root partition and putting it back anew. The launchers are probably left from my /home partition which was not formatted. In 13.1 milestone 3, I deleted the launchers that caused crashing, and put in replacements with the Add Widgets tool. The manually-added widgets were probably retained when installing milestone 4, so my experience is likely not representative of a complete, new installation, including /home. I may try a full installation to see what happens. As soon as I logged in, the plasma-desktop crashed . I pushed <Alt>+F2 & inputed "plasma-desktop", the plasma-desktop was recovered . I removed Dolphin & Firefox from the bottom panel . I logged out, & I relogged in .

Then the plasma-desktop did not crash !

Proposed fix from upstream report is at home:sumski:branches:KDE:Distro:Factory. That patch fixes the crash for me (even without the LANG=$LANG workaround).

And after installing the latest packages from KDF the crash is gone now as well in both of my 32bit VMs (12.3 and Factory).
