Each time i start the computer it gets passed boot loader and then has a long pause when the video driver is being initialized
And how is this related to KDE? What exactly do you mean with "when the video driver is being initialized"? When exactly does the "long pause" happen? Directly after the boot loader before the boot splash is shown? When the boot splash disappears and the login screen or KDE is being loaded? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

i'm not actually sure if it is related to kde.
Well, you reported it against "KDE (Workspace)"... ;-)
when the display is being started it pauses for a quite a while and then continues normally into login screen
Hm, I still don't understand what "the display is being started" means. Can you try to press ESC and see what happens on the screen? Or if that has no effect, add "plymouth.enable=0" to the boot options (press 'e' at the boot menu and append that to the line starting with "linux" or "linuxefi", or add it in YaST->System->Boot Loader->Kernel Parameters.
the boot splash screen doesn't even show, it is just a blank screen with a yellow or white curser top left hand corner.
Well, that's definitely unrelated to KDE or even the login screen. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

when i pressed ESC nothing happened
Then try to boot without the boot splash please: (In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #3)
Or if that has no effect, add "plymouth.enable=0" to the boot options (press 'e' at the boot menu and append that to the line starting with "linux" or "linuxefi", or add it in YaST->System->Boot Loader->Kernel Parameters.
Hopefully you will get boot messages then, that should show at what point in the boot process it "hangs". As this "long pause" happens even before the login screen shows, it can't be a problem of the KDE desktop. It may be the login screen that takes long to start though. So please also try to set DISPLAYMANAGER="xdm" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, to use a simpler one, and see if that helps. If not, it must be a problem on some lower level, like e.g. a failing mount or similar. Maybe the top lines of "systemd-analyze blame" will give a clue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
