From the new kernel thus booted I have found the following.

So, IIUC, the problem is only about the frame buffer, and you get X11 appearing?
Yes. Junk is shown, switching to VT gives me the console login. Switching back to X11 gives the desktop.
And which old Leap 15.0 kernel did work?
The previously released one 4.12.14-lp150.12.48.1 does not have this issue. (In reply to Takashi Iwai from comment #4)
... and looking through the recent commits, I found that SLE15/Leap15.0 still contains a commit that is known to be problematic for SLE15-SP1/Leap15.1 and TW (bug#1129027): d179b88deb3bf6fed4991a31fd6f0f2cad21fab5 drm/i915/fbdev: Actually configure untiled displays
I'm building a kernel with the revert in OBS home:tiwai:bsc1131062 repo. Could you give it a try later?
Same issue, except what was previously junk is now blank. Switching to VT gives me the console login. Switching back to X11 gives the desktop. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Also, could you give hwinfo output? This might be depending on the hardware.
