[Bug 768368] New: Frequent crashes when connected to networks with UPNP (Windows?) devices
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=768368 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=768368#c0 Summary: Frequent crashes when connected to networks with UPNP (Windows?) devices Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: kamikazow@web.de QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1 The crashes only occur when I'm connected to a network with UPNP (Windows?) devices. If I remember correctly, libHUpnp1 was recently added as KDE dependency a while ago to Factory. Since then not only almost all KDE applications crash on a regular basis, Dolphin's Places panel also shows all other UPNP devices on the network. If UPNP support is optional, I strongly suggest to disable it until the root problem is fixed. On opensuse-kde the following bugs of Ubuntu's KDE implementation were cited as related: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259472 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=259377 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Connect to my university's WiFi 2. Browse the web a while Actual Results: Almost every KDE app crashes Expected Results: No KDE app crashes -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As far as I know proper UPNP support needs kio_upnp-ms, which is not available.
And what has this to do with libHUpnp1 causing crashes all over the place? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As far as I know proper UPNP support needs kio_upnp-ms, which is not available.
And what has this to do with libHUpnp1 causing crashes all over the place?
First, UPnP without upnp-ms cannot work at all. UPnP shares are detected, but their contents cannot be accessed. Second I have my own copy of kio_upnp-ms in my home repository, dolphin and amarok do detect UPnP resources offered by nearby machines and I do not have any of the crashes described here. Unfortunately kio_upnp-ms and/or libhupnp seems to be broken, such that contents cannot be shown either. But no crashes at all. I think it would be better to make upnp work than simply turning it off. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
