http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=950937 Bug ID: 950937 Summary: Chrome and Firefox video playback is choppy Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.1 RC1 1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 42.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: alberto.zacchetti@tiscali.it QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- The system run on laptop PC with builtin Intel graphics card. Youtube playback are very fine on 13.2 and also in Leap 42.1 Beta 1, but on RC1 both Chrome and Firefox are very choppy (including audio), especially when the video is played in full screen. I have tried both in LXDE and Plasma 5, enabling and disabling browser hardware acceleration, but without getting any improvement. The tests that I did not even seem a cpu overload. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is not a continuous choppy replay, but as stumbles, as if the CPU were overloaded. We can see some change, however, in Plasma 5, which is more stable (before going out of use after playback with VLC) and in VLC, which reproduces the frames at full size. Now I try to reinstall all Beta 1 and to upgrade step by step to RC 1, to see if it shows more clearly the breaking point. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The browsers problem is solved and not even have to install the patch for pulseaudio. However, the problem with VLC and Plasma 5 is come back: only top-left quarter of the frames are visible and at VLC exit window manager is out of service. Then I think is non-oss repo component to break the browsers, but Plasma 5 is less stable than with Beta1. Any idea? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Maybe we have strayed from the goal of this bug: video playback in Chrome and Firefox. VLC was just to test playback with an standalone player and this has led to other problems with both VLC and Plasma5.
Hm, haven't you yourself stated that your problems are fixed, except for the VLC one? At least that's how I (and probably the other commenters too) read your comment#8:
I made a fresh install of Beta1 and I upgraded the whole repo oss to RC1. The browsers problem is solved and not even have to install the patch for pulseaudio. However, the problem with VLC and Plasma 5 is come back: only top-left quarter > of the frames are visible and at VLC exit window manager is out of service.
So what exactly is your problem now?
But the problem seems independent of the window manager, because it also occurs with LXDE.
It is definitely not a KDE problem then and we should reassign it again, I'd say. Xorg maybe? Does uninstalling libvdpau-va-gl1 help? This seems to have caused problems for other users in the past. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried uninstalling the package, but nothing changes. I do not know if the bug is to be reassigned, because now there are more than one. Perhaps it would be split into multiple reports: video playback in browsers (this), Plasma 5 and VLC. Euh, Leap only has 1 repo, so what other repo's are we talking about ? Please indicate what other repo's you are using to upgrade to what you think is RC1 The issue with VLC and Qt 5.5 is known, so no need to create another bug report for that. As indicated it is an upstream problem which can not be fixed by openSUSE. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=950937 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=950937#c18 --- Comment #18 from Alberto Zacchetti <alberto.zacchetti@tiscali.it> --- Sorry, you're right, I have only a repo. I was confused (I'm doing a lot of testing these days...). Anyway remains the fact that with the downgrade (RC1->Beta1) the problem remains while upgrading (Beta1->RC1) the problem does not occur. I note, for clarity, that I do not run the upgrade with the DVD menu option, but with YaST, selecting the transition of oss repo. With VLC the bugs are two: one is that of the display, which has already been opened (https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-48321), while the other is that once you exit the program (after you start playing a movie), the Plasma5 window manager crashes: the panel will disappear and also the desktop manager goes out of service with this dialog window: KDEInit failed to start «/usr/lib64/libexec/kf5/kioexec» instead desktop effects continue to run. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
