[Bug 1127405] New: Kopete doesn't save window size & position and panels layout
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127405 Bug ID: 1127405 Summary: Kopete doesn't save window size & position and panels layout Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: srid@rkmail.ru QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- After upgrading to from 15.0 to 15.1 beta, kopete does not save it's windows size position and panels layout. Tried with clean config file, got same result. Sometimes it crashes on exit, but I'm not sure if it is related. Unusable for me so far. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

But what exactly do you mean with "panels layout"? Can you please clarify this? Thanks.
Well, contacts list has a toolbar with buttons and search field, like many other kde apps. You can configure it, but configuration is not saved across restarts. Same probably works for chat windows, I had no chance to test it, since it didn't migrate my IM accounts correctly for some reason. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, noted. May be related as well.

Yes, the KF5 version doesn't migrate settings (so far). You could copy them over manually though. I.e. just move ~/.kde4/share/config/kopete* to ~/.config/ and ~/.kde4/share/apps/kopete to ~/.local/share/ . Does that help? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Leap 15.0 already had kf5-based kopete. Accounts were broken during 15.0 -> 15.1 migration. It's not like they were broken entirely, just some of them missing after upgrade. Maybe it happened because i had an identity that had spaces in it's name, I'm not sure. I can't really test it again, because I had message history backup, but no config file backup. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

No, it didn't. Leap 15.0 shipped with kopete 17.08.3, which was still KDE4 based. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Leap:15.0/kopete kopete was missing from KDE Applications 17.12, which was shipped with Leap 15.0, because it hadn't been ported in time. And I personally blocked an update to 18.04, which would have been KF5-based (for exactly the same reasons as you reported here, really bad for a maintainence update in particular...) The update Leap 15.0 to 15.1 does also means an update from the KDE4-based kopete to a KF5-based one though. So again, please try to to migrate the files manually and tell if it helps. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So again, please try to to migrate the files manually and tell if it helps. It helped, but now I wonder why it had some of the old data in it in. I never installed any version of kopete from third-party repos since kde 4.x times. And also I don't remember moving any configs manually before.
But anyway it soft of works, but it doesn't connect accounts automatically, while being set to do it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

No idea, but I do plan to implement the migration before we release 15.1. (not that I am involved in upstream development though, that rather seems to be dead actually...)

Please tell me more about that, maybe that can be fixed too. (In reply to Iakov Karpov from comment #9)
Oh, and windows settings are still not being saved.
Sure, that certainly has nothing to do with migrating the old files... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you open settings dialog in kopete, and go to "behavior", you see "initial status" setting. For me it is set to "online", but upon start all accounts are left offline. Each account could be configured to ignore this setting, but in my case there are 3 of them that should connect automatically on startup. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Is this still being worked on? Not really.
I looked into it a couple of months ago, but didn't find time yet to continue. What I can tell so far: - the crash on exit only seems to happen if you open the settings (the crash is in khtml btw), but the window size is not saved without the crash either, so the two are unrelated - there is code to save the window size but it's not connected to anything, that's obviously the reason why it isn't remembered. (i.e. incomplete porting to Qt5/KF5) All of this are upstream problems though (with open upstream bug reports), unfortunately nobody else seems to care about fixing them either. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
