[Bug 556018] New: wireless sees SSID, but won't fully connect
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=556018#c0 Summary: wireless sees SSID, but won't fully connect Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Greg.Freemyer@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) I have a BCM4306 wireless chip. The OS was installed as OS 11.2 milestone 6 (or 7) and zypper dupped to GM. (I had not tried wireless prior to RC1). I have tried to connect to my home wireless via WPA2/PSK with both knetworkmanager and with the traditional method. Both ways I can scan for wireless networks and see my home network (and others). Even though I set the security to WPA2/PSK and enter the right password, it fails to acquire an IP address via either method. (It does work if I dual boot to XP.) I have just tried connecting to a open network via knetworkmanager and an IP does get acquired. (Good news). But I still am unable to actually send tcp traffic over the connection. (Again it works from XP). I had inadvertently installed the broadcom STA driver from Packman, but I now have that uninstalled. It is possible some remnant from that is causing a problem. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you attach output of hwinfo and dmesg after you try to connect?

I don't know if a IP should be in the above or not, but clearly it is not
No, it should not. Look at `ip addr' output if you want to see IPs.
Attempts to ping both 10.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.1 result in. "Network is unavailable".
If you didn't get an address from those ranges, that's reasonable answer.
dmesg ends with:

I'm not sure I did things right because after shutting down the network service and wpa_supplicant it doesn't look to me in the log that the wpa_supplicant execution you asked me to do worked in any serious way.

By rfkill switch I assume you mean a physical switch on the laptop.
Yes.
I know a lot of laptops have those. This one does not to the best of my knowledge.
It may be just fn+antenna key, but AFAICT there has to be one.

That server seems to be offline. I've tried a couple times over the weekend with no luck.
I don't know what happened, the server was down, now it's running.
Looks like one of those is fixed at least.
