https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249638 Summary: update-status and auditd compute-bound Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp AssignedTo: kkaempf@novell.com ReportedBy: crispin@novell.com QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com CC: visnov@novell.com, seth.arnold@novell.com Several days ago, ZMD/libzypp became problematic because it told me of patches available for ClamAV, but then failed to update them. I found no way to clear the "orange !" display on my desktop because I couldn't actually update them. Yesterday, after boot, the update-status daemon ran for 5 minutes of hard compute-bound work with a lot of disk IO, even though there was no network connection available (I was on a train). Today, update-status and auditd seem to run out of control, constantly compute-bound and doing lots of disk I/O. Worse, auditd appears to not be working, as I can't get audit messages from AppArmor to make it through to /var/log/audit/audit.log any more (this used to work). My computer has become unusable; it overheats, and sucks battery power at an absurd rate. I am therefore going to follow the instructions here http://opensuse-community.org/Package_Sources and remove zmd, in the hopes that I can get auditd to work again. NOTE: This is classified as "SuSE Other" because I cannot find a classification for openSUSE 10.2 :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
