https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=351915 Summary: NO CPU Throttling applied to I386 Intel Celeron 2.4Mhz Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@virginbroadband.com.au QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer Boot Log reviles NO CPU throttling applied to the following and this is confirmed by dynamic CPU statistics available from KDE System Guard showing a static CPU frequency at 23999Mhz despite processor load from both user and system. Details follows:- CPU = Intel Celeron 2.4Mgz with Socket 478 Chipset=Intel 865PE/Intel ICH5 Motherboard is pre-set to default 'AUTO' maintain Hardware/Software throttling/overclocking, however the O/S is NOT dictating either and Hardware elects by to obey software O/S initiated support CPU frequency. Very loath to change default as BIOS ONLY provides an Overclocking percentile - overriding software and terminating Hardware Throttling of CPU frequency. - Motherboard specs carry severe warnings against altering this setting to change CPU Frequency to a PERMANENT overclocking value.
