The routine blkdev_get_size() from lib/blkdev.c does use the ioctl BLKGETSIZE64
and if this does fail then there is a fallback routine blkdev_find_size() which
uses read() and lseek() in blkdev_valid_offset() to determine the device size
by stepping over some possible offsets and detecting if the upper boundary of
the devices is reached ... but IMHO there is missed a check for possible errors
I/O errors indicating a not existing device.
