Ok. First, the upgrade to .4 does appear to have fixed the problem, without
breaking anything else that I've spotted yet. Thanks.
That said,
zypper up kernel-desktop
wouldn't run because the kernel is in a different repo, and the suggested
zypper install kernel-desktop-2.6.34.4-6.1.i586
installed *989MB* of kernels, and put *all of them* in my menu.lst, which seems
excessive: notably, it did *not* leave the older kernel in the menu.lst, nor
indeed in the /boot directory at all.
Does RPM/zypper not have any special handling for kernels which says "you
shouldn't uninstall the old one when you install a new one, unlike what's the
proper behavior for normal apps"?
