in reply to comment #6: I can understand your concern but I disagree
with the place where this should show up. Users tend to setup everything
on their desktop and Users want to that on a per-User base and want to be
sure their changes are saved and restored by the next session.
All this is part of the desktop and even more all this is dynamically.
Users don't want to call a tool to setup something save it and restart the
complete session. Users want to change apply/save and that's it. This applies
to all kind of X related devices like the screen and all input devices
including the one you have concerns with.
Because of this reason the way is to make the desktop clear and simple
to the User. It was decided to follow the way of dynamic changes, therefore
randr2 exists and therefore all new drivers in X are dynamically changeable
in their setup. This is also the reason why sax2 will die sooner or later
and this is also the reason why I will not include such enhancements anymore.
* I agree users can't find the tool on their desktop to do what they want
to do because it's not installed. This is not my fault, it's the desktop
which doesn't integrate it smoothly so why not open a bug on the desktop
side ?
* I agree all input devices has to work. Do they work with the initial setup
of sax2... yes they do.
* I agree there are too many possible places to look at. So vote for one which
is the best and I'm sure it's not a standalone application which requires you
to restart your complete session but it would be a desktop application which
allows you to re-setup the current configuration on the fly, wouldn't it ?
so did you test the available tools ? do they work for you ? Could you
integrate them to show up in your desktop ?
I'm sorry this is not on my todo list anymore, things have changed
in this field. I'm sorry
