I opened the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan config file for my wireless device, and deleted the ESSID and WPA PSK entriess from the WIRELESS_ESSID and WIRELESS_WPA_PSK fields. Now the auto-connect works fine for both networks that I connect to! I'm not sure that is a full solution as it seems this could be made more robust, but this did fix the symptom.
