Stefan,
I don't like "grep -q parport /proc/modules && modprobe lp"
because I heared about strange laptops or docking stations where
the kernel died a sudden death in case of whatever parport issues
(but I don't know if those issues depend on the "lp" module).
I have a bad feeling with automated kernel module loading
from "application" (from the kernel's point of view) programs.
I appreciate a "fix-parallel-printer-because-kernelhackers-broke-it.rpm"
because this way it is obvious that it is a band-aid solution and
it is separated from the rest (not mixed into an "application" package).
It is no problem when cups recommends such a package.
The YaST printer module could do a test if that package is installed
in its "connection wizard" dialog for parallel port printers
and install it after the user confirmed that he wants it.
Could you submit such a package to the OBS?
