--- Comment #61 from Felix Miata 2014-01-12 03:11:01 UTC ---
On 2.4GHz Celeron host t2240 running freshly updated 13.1/KDE4 with
3.11.6-4-desktop release kernel, populating yast2 storage & from terminal took
90+ seconds with floppy in normal operating condition. I shut down,
disconnected power cable from floppy drive, and BIOS took an extra long time to
get through post on power up. Populating yast2 storage & from terminal this
time took 125+ seconds. If there were any fd0 references on tty10 or in the
last 40 or so lines of dmesg output I failed to spot them. Repeating once more
after installing 3.11.10-0 from http://labs.suse.cz/jikos/download/bug-773058/
took ~100 seconds with floppy still unplugged. One more repeat after powering
down and reconnecting floppy cable again took ~100 seconds.
On 1.67GHz Athlon XP+ host kt400 running 3.11.6-4-default release kernel on
13.1/minimal X freshly updated I repeated (BIOS reported floppy fail during
POST with cable removed):
kernel floppy yast2StorageStartup
3.11.6-4-default connected 57 sec
3.11.6-4-default unpowered 68 sec
3.11.10-0-desktop unpowered 66 sec
3.11.10-0-desktop connected 66 sec
I'm still thinking hang is limited to installation evironment. So I
disconnected the floppy power cable again, and booted installation
kernel/initrd (which runs an unusually terrible 791 framebuffer whether plugged
into CRT or 1024x768 LCD, something common to linux kernels generally after
somewhere around 3.7). At 21:59 the installation GUI initialized. Two minutes
later while searching for Linux partitions was on 60%, tty2 had 10 fd0 I/O
errors. At 22:08, searching for Linux partitions progress was still at 60%.
Then I gave up. Please someone build a 32 bit installation kernel for 13.1 or
13.2 I can try that includes the patch applied in the comment 51 kernels.
