https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=840055 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=840055#c0 Summary: gnome-shell crashes on startup due to contents of /run/systemd/sessions/ Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: james.faulkner@yale.edu QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/29.0.1547.57 Safari/537.36 I run a computer lab that was recently upgraded to OpenSUSE 12.3. After the machines are rebooted, logging into gnome works fine. After, after the machines have been used for a while, logging into gnome results in a "Oh No! Something went wrong" error message. The crash is happening in gnome-shell. Stracing gnome-shell, I found that it is looking at /run/systemd/sessions/ just before crashing. On a hunch, I deleted the contents of /run/systemd/sessions/ and then tried to run gnome-shell. After deleting the contents of /run/systemd/sessions/ , gnome-shell starts correctly. Something that appears in /run/systemd/sessions/ after a period of usage is causing gnome-shell to crash. Only deleting the contents of /run/systemd/sessions/ allows gnome-shell to run without crashing.
