Please note that these crashes happen whether I am using the NVidia driver or the Nouveau driver. There seems to be some bad interaction happening between GDM/gnome-shell and systemd. Adding users to the video group does not seem to help, nor does making /dev/nvidia* world-writable. There's a buffer overrun in the systemd-login library that will be triggered when the number of entries in /run/systemd/sessions/ exceeds 15; it doesn't account for the NULL sentinel when reallocating the strv.
