I am experiencing this problem as well. I believe that the bug entry at
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=483424 is experiencing this problem
a well.
I have two machines that, when updated to the latest X11:Xorg development repo,
both hang when starting X.
The two machines are:
1. Custom built, openSUSE 11.1 + KDE 4.2 (factory), lastest nVidia driver.
2. MacBook Pro, openSUSE 11.1 + KDE 4.2 (factory), ATI X1600 with radeonhd.
There is no way to know what the problem is with the nVidia-based machine since
the driver is closed.
Therefore, I will be attaching the Xorg.0.log file for the Macbook Pro using
the radeonhd driver. I first started experiencing the problem on the Macbook
sometime around the end of February 2009 or beginning of March 2009.
Before this problem, I was using the radeonhd driver with great success (full
KDE desktop effects).
I do have a 3rd machine that is a Dell E521 with a ATI X1350 card, but I have
not updated it to openSUSE 11.1 yet; it's still running openSUSE 10.3 and the
proprietary driver. I am hoping to update it to openSUSE 11.1 + radeonhd
sometime in the very near future.
