In comment #20 you wrote "worked fine while I was on openSuSE 11.3 ...
When I switched to openSuSE 11.4 and 12.1, the problem occurs"
That comment helped a lot!
Because I have an openSUSE 11.4 system and - voila ! - I can
reproduce it there with my Canon CanoScan N1240U/LiDE30
(using the SANE driver "plustek"):
xsane works and
also from Gimp I can import from my scanner
(via menue -> "File" -> "Create" -> both via
"XSane: Device dialog..." and "XSane: plustek...")
but in LibreOffice via
menue -> "Insert" -> "Picture" -> "Scan" -> "Select Source..."
LibreOffice crashes.
Therefore it could be
either an issue in the SANE software
- in openSUSE 11.3 we had sane-backends 1.0.21
- in openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1 we have sane-backends 1.0.22
or an issue in the office software:
On my openSUSE 11.4 64-bit x86_64 system I manually downgraded
(via plain "rpm") sane-backends to sane-backends 1.0.21 from
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/suse/x86_64/
and LibreOffice still crashes.
Therefore - from my current point of view - the issue is in LibreOffice
in particular because only LibreOffice crashes while other applications
which use scanners (like xsane and gimp) work.
I think now the LibreOffice experts should have a closer look
(I am not at all a LibreOffice expert):
Yi Fan Jiang,
in comment #1 you wrote "I could not see the problem in my environment".
Could you please describe your environment in more detail.
E.g. does it perhaps work in a 32-bit i586 environment?
Or does it perhaps work by chance with a particular scanner
driver (i.e. which scanner did you use to reproduce it)?
