Probably it's the WFLAGS that get passed to a QWidget that acts as the outermost widget of a pop-up dialog - they probably get propagated as WM_HINTS properties to the corresponding X11 window, and this is probably what makes KWin add that help icon. Bottom line: Just create in the installed system the device entries you need for Bootloader installation. Boot loader install is chrooting in the installed system and needs the device entries THERE !
