After restart of X, I had a black screen and had to uninstall the driver. Next I unpacked the nvidia installationscript and built the kernel-module locally on the notebook, but with the same result. I even tried several different configurations of xorg.conf. The nvidia kernel-module was loaded, but not in use. I don't know exactly whether it is a problem of the kernel or of the driver. I was not able to do some performing workaround. The grapic card is a intel i915 with working 3D acceleration. I've run rug update but it didn't find any so everything I have installed is from the beta1 DVD. When i first tried activating desktop effects it said that my card wasn't in the list of supported card but that it might be working if I enabled 3D acceleration in sax. The problems was that 3D acceleration was enabled and working already. I installed freeglut to get the glxinfo utility and it seems to have resolved that problem. So the xgl stuff should have a depend on freeglut. So now I can click the "enable desktop effects" button but it doesn't work anywway. I get loged out of gnome but when I log in again xgl isn't activated. Is there any log I can look at to see why it didn't work? I want to remove gnome and install kde. No internet source (there was one, but removed) - cd source & net update source only I launch Yast, sofware install, patterns ->I clic on gnome extended until trashcan appears, I click on kde extended... freeze no more mouse, no more Ctrl Alt Fx the computer respond to ping, but ssh get excess delay, no connexion. I don't see anything else to do than reboot I could do this twice, then I gave up. It is because the current kernel version used is 2.6.18.2-34-default. hence the older version r1000 would not work. Second thing, the driver used for networking by yast is r8169. both module provides access to network. So correct module to load is perhaps r8169. But it is not loaded by default. I reported to them and according to their developers this works with Fedora, which uses the same version of ImageMagick and fontconfig (I'm sure with different patches though). I even tried to copy the code from mogrify.c (annotate part), but that one crashes as well in my application, while it doesn't crash in the mogrify tool. The reason I consider a bug is that the above code worked for several ImageMagick releases, and I tested now on a Kubuntu with 6.2.4, and works there as well. In case you do not consider a bug, please let me know how can this crash be avoided. Their replies: 1) The assertion is being thrown inside the fontconfig library indicating a problem with that library rather than ImageMagick. You might be able to fix by upgrading your fontconfig library or commenting out FcFini() in magick/type.c or by excluding the fontconfig library (edit magick/magick-config.h and undef HasFONTCONFIG and rebuild/install ImageMagick). 2) > 3 0x00002b6f64bfe641 in FcCacheFini () at fccache.c:412 We tried your code segment with ImageMagick 6.3.0-7 under Fedora Core 6 and it ran without complaint. 3) Fedora has fontconfig 2.4.1. We could add a check in the configure script to not use the fontconfig library for versions < 2.4.1 if you determine the fontconfig library has a bug. Currently the check is for fontconfig version 2.3.1 and above. Let us know. In case you know what can cause the problem in SUSE (I see that at list fontconfig has 31 patches in src.rpm, 8 applied from them), I'd like to see it fixed.
