https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227277 ------- Comment #3 from jdd@dodin.org 2006-12-09 03:44 MST ------- the computer is a celeron 600 with 450Mb ram. if it's really a bug (and not only a speed problem) it's major, because many people are prone to change from kde to gnome and vice versa. in my case the HDD (4Gb) was too small to accomodate the two systems together :-( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227277 ------- Comment #4 from jdd@dodin.org 2006-12-09 09:13 MST ------- the problem may be more important that I though initially. Yast crashes, what ever module is in use, under gnome or kde :-(. What I did: init 3, yast (no problem), remove gnome, install kde, init 5 Kde was installed, but gnome was _not_ removed entirely (only extended gnome was uninstalled - not base) and gnome started always. I couldn't modify this in gnome with yast, always freeze. so init 3, yast, system, sysinit, desktop, replace gdm by kdm, gnome by kde. then init 5 kde starts. Yast, software, untick gnome base, accept two dependency problems (deleting the gnome utility) and yast begun to delete gnome... freeze :-( amways same freeze: no more mouse, ping ok, ssh don't I tested memory with memtest, no problem I have no idea... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It seems to be a hardware problem. After that try to repeat to uninstall the Gnome and to install the KDE. Please report if you are successful or not. I couldn't know if this was not a result of the (multiple crashes), so I formated the drive (new partition table). the new install was done without LVM. /dev/hda1 swap, /dev/hda2 ext3 a complete fsck with block test didn't find anything wrong. I made a new fresh install of 10.2+kde, all nice I launch openoffice, no problem, at morinig after several hours running still, run fine. I lauch Yast to complete the update system install... freeze (no mouse) I can't do more right now (I'm out of office all the day). more later (I need to try openoffice with active work -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227277 ------- Comment #8 from jdd@dodin.org 2006-12-13 00:23 MST ------- Itry hard to diagnose my pc in search of HW fgailure, but don't find any. After the crash, I see a file system harmed, but is this du to the crash? Yaesterday the crash had a curious state: ssh _was_ accessible, I could do init 3 then init 1, and I can see this in /var/log/messages, but the computer didn't reboot aned the screen didn't blank (I had to reset manually) I dl ubcd to make more advanced tests and will report thanks jdd -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
