To reproduce the issue, you might follow these steps (on an x86 machine): 1. setup some tumbleweed machine with osc and qemu-system-s390x 2. checkout home:azouhr:playground portainer # osc co home:azouhr:playground/portainer 3. change into that directory: # cd home:azouhr:playground/portainer 4. run the local build: # osc build --vm-type qemu openSUSE_Tumbleweed_zSystems s390x -> this will already fail 5. to do some more debugging: # osc chroot --vm-type qemu openSUSE_Tumbleweed_zSystems s390x IMHO, this is mainly interesting because to my understanding, building the distribution with qemu is a requirement from Common Criteria as a disaster fallback. Marcela should know more and better about this than I do. The SUSE SELinux working group would like to announce the plan to switch new Tumbleweed installations to SELinux as default MAC system *by the end of this year*. Currently, new Tumbleweed installations select AppArmor in the installer as default MAC system. After this change, new Tumbleweed installations will select SELinux in enforcing mode as default MAC system. Users will still be able to select AppArmor as MAC system in the installer. Existing installations will *not* be affected. If you would like to migrate your existing system from AppArmor to SELinux, we have a guide on what to consider and how to do that here [0]. *What does it mean for users?* Our SELinux policy contains many policy modules, which confine most well-known services. Switching to SELinux means more services are confined by default, which means enhanced security. On the other hand, more confinement also means that in the early phase of the adoption there could be more bugs caused by SELinux denying legitimate accesses. We perform both manual and automated tests via openQA, to ensure that our policy works seamlessly. We also rely on you, the community, to create bugreports so that we can adapt the policy to any scenarios that we did not foresee. (Remaining: 2.027 GiB, 743 packages)", and it does not change for minutes if delta RPMs are in use. While the user might think the process hangs (not seeing any change in the display for minutes), a top in another window indicates that applydeltarpm is active (and it takes quite some time). Following HCL:suse I have successfully installed latest version. And I have copied the dtb file to system_drv partition as page requested. But after grub2 load kernel, the computer continues reset. About 7-8 times failed then 1 success. This makes I am afraid to reboot computer because next time will take more tries to come in. I notice the UEFI version is 1.60 or 1.70, which is a higher version than 1.58. Upgrade your UEFI firmware to the newer versions which can support LINUX boot v1.49 or later versions. The latest version tested: v1.58 I have read all the tickets on this website. Can any help guide how to resolve this? From Yast, I can see other backends are available in the repositories (e.g. flatpak, fwupd), but not for snaps. I don't know if it was omitted by mistake or intentionally? Since the "snappy" repository is available for Tumbleweed and anyone can and many do have (myself included) installed snaps (via snapd) on Tumbleweed, it is very annoying that canonical's snapstore itself is not directly available via Discover, like flatpak/flathub is and like one finds in other distributions! Without the backend, the snapstore can only be managed via cli, or by installing canonical's snapstore via snap. None of these is an optimal solution. Even in Kubuntu ALL backends are offered out-of-the box (not just snaps) in Discover.. https://apps.kde.org/discover.snap/ I'd like to kindly request that the snap backend and canonical's snapstore (snapcraft.io) is made avaialble in Discover. (Cgo lets Go packages call C code, see https://go.dev/blog/cgo, 2011) The most commonly used option that triggers the external linker is -buildmode=pie, which we aspirationally use in most Go application packages behind conditionals for architectures where it is unsupported, currently only ppc64le. We first encountered this issue when trying to set the go metapackage from go1.21 to go1.22. Approximately 40+ Go application packages in Factory set CGO_ENABLED=0 and -buildmode=pie together. On arch i586, builds started to fail with error: -buildmode=pie requires external (cgo) linking, but cgo is not enabled This tracking bug will be referenced for SR submissions to Go application packages to adapt to the new requirements. Most of these submissions will to remove CGO_ENABLED=0 absent a requirement for its use by a specific package. After "successful" completion there was a GNOME popup that /boot only has 15kB free space left, so I checked the journal for errors. As I didn't find any, I rebooted the system. Before I had run a snapper cleanup to free 15% in /boot. On reboot the system paniced, because the initrd was missing or invalid. Same happened when I tried to boot an older kernel (obviously because all initrd were rebuilt and thus damaged). So I had to use a rescue system and a chroot environment to rebuild the initrds. Type Alt-s to open "Other settings ..." window. Type Alt-n to enter the hostname of the NTP server in the LAN. Type ntp<space> to overwrite the pre-selected text with the desired hostname. Type Alt-d to add the just added hostname to the list of remote servers. Type Alt-e to remove the already selected pool entry from the list. Type Alt-a to accept all changes and return to timezone selection window. Type Alt-n to proceed with installation. At the very end, an error appears that /etc/chrony.conf can not be written. It's not an issue with the systemd hardenings. I can now reproduce it, but even with all the settings disabled this comes up. Switching to a TTY showed an error "Unable to start user manager for user 1000". I was unable to login with any account including root. Using the recovery console, I was able to retrieve logs, find this culprit, rollback, and am currently working after locking out the libeconf updates with `sudo zypper al libeconf0 libeconf0-32bit libeconf-devel` Not sure if this is just me, hopefully it is. I did have some custom pam config, which I naturally removed to test, and there was no change, but I did notice that `rpm -qf /etc/pam.d/*` returns several "file foo is not owned by any package", and none of those files are mine. I'm not sure if this is intentional or if it is related. Relevant section of the journal is attached. For the record, I am not using any proxy. This is a pretty basic install with default repositories, except for Packman and Libdvdcss repositories being added, and a static IPv4 address, DNS server and route instead of the default DHCP config. While I did not observe any functional issue due to these errors, it makes zypper unpleasant to use, as this could hide more useful messages, and fills out the shell windows' log, making it harder to scroll back when needed.
