Just a customer opinion: I guess a user won't check the logs until an error is flagged somehow, and if the next boot fails due to an incomplete initrd, it' not so easy to check the logs then, not to talk about fixing the issue. Meaning: IMHO it would be easier to be notified about the problem _before_ the boot fails.
