In LO 5.2.5.1 there is no such issue. Indeed, the classical "pam_ldap" package is NOT available on OpenSUSE LEAP 15.0. This package is present in OpenSUSE 42.3 (and the fore-mentioned configuration works with OpenSUSE 42.3) and in tumbleweed. If /boot is on logical device like LVM or MD raid that is spread over multiple disks, it will write to each of that disk. Well, now back to original task Neil would like to do. It can be achieved if user click on "Booting" to get full blown bootloader configuration and here select "Boot from Custom" and there write "/dev/sdb". Reason for this change is to make behavior more user friendly for newbies and unified for experts. So for experts if they want to install to various non-standard location "Boot from Custom" is answer. Trick with changing disk order I found a bit too confusing.
