These are used to enable SSDs as a backing cache with dm-cache on LVM. Ok, but Werner, if we set XDG_RUNTIME_DIR in xdg-su, who will care of creating (and perhaps deleting) the directory as is specified [1]: The lifetime of the directory MUST be bound to the user being logged in. It MUST be created when the user first logs in and if the user fully logs out the directory MUST be removed. If the user logs in more than once he should get pointed to the same directory, and it is mandatory that the directory continues to exist from his first login to his last logout on the system, and not removed in between. If you did not do so this is likely to cause problems like this as we then have a discrepancy between scripts and expected environment in initrd and the environment outside of the initrd. So changing configs without adjusting the initrd is likely to fail. YaST usually generates a new initrd after such changes, but if you do so by hand you should do that yourself.
