I *think* that in 12.2 a user was created (one is needed to run the program as a service). Then, once I had the user created, the program exited (with no error message) just after scanning the first mp3 file. There is a more detailed bug report in the mpd forums at http://forum.musicpd.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=72 However, after building mpd from source (which required adding many dependencies - principally dev packages) the system mpd (and the one compiled from source) worked correctly. So I assume that the initial problem with mpd was a missing dependency. Although I don't know why that should give such a "clean" failure. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install mpd in an otherwise fairly minimal / new install 2. Configure mpd user or simply run locally 3. mpd exits as described in linked post above 4. Install many dependencies 5. mpd now works. Thinkpad X220 latest bios v1.37 BIOS startup settings: Legacy only 12.3RC2 (Build094) DVD x86_64 dded to USB The BIOS does not see the USB stick as bootable. Other systems without a UEFI-capable bios can boot from the same image on the same stick.
