Prior to update, my 12.1 was set since release to 1280x Upon reboot Tuesday morning, the system changed to 1920x1200 resolution making it very difficult for my low-vision to read the computer screen. A subsequent update existed on Wednesday, but the problem remained. Going to Nvidia-settings GUI, I see only two options now. Auto and 1920x1200. Prior to that, there was a long list of resolution options. My computer is an HP Touchsmart screen running with nvidia card. I am attaching xorg.conf and xrander text files for review. I'm told by others that this is indeed a bug. I'd like to roll back to previous state, but do not know how. This is severely impacting my work as I cannot see things clearly anymore with my low vision. 1280x resolution was optimal for my vision. Please give this some attention so I can get back to my work. I have to use nVidia proprietary drivers because I need VDPAU to allow smooth FullHD video playback. I have a big TV connected through HDMI and a HiFi (stereo) can be alternatively connected to the TV's audio out and Mainboard sound. Before, I used a simpler graphics card, a 9800GT, but with some update in openSUSE 12.1, it suddenly couldn't decode/play several movie files any more that played perfectly before. So I replaced the graphics card with an EN210 and it worked again. (Appears to me as when nVidia enforces hardware selling by removing functionality from their drivers.) Last week I updated my system (12.1 x86). From next boot on I was unable to get any sound, not from the TV, but also not from mainboard. I finally did a online dup to openSUSE 12.2. After spending several DAYS for getting sound working, I finally did a fresh-install of openSUSE 12.2. STILL the same problem. The problem is: lspci shows me both sound cards, "NVidia HDA" (Graphics card) and the mainboard Sound (VIA Azalia HDA...). Yast shows me both sound cards, but with whatever card I start, I can only configure the first one, the second one causes an Error. aplay -l shows me only the nVidia HDMI soundcard with four channels, but not the VIA soundsystem. lspci -nnk shows me that a driver snd_hda_intel is assigned to the nVidia card, but no driver is assigned to the VIA card. I experienced that replacing the EN210 by an older GT7300 (has no sound) makes the VIA sound working perfectly. It uses the same snd_hda_intel module. Even when swapping the card back to the EN210, the previous sound setup for VIA is not working any more again. All the sound worked perfectly in openSUSE 11.4 and 12.1 (until 1 week ago), so the hardware cannot be the reason. It must be a weired bug in software. I spent meanwhile approx 5 days with trying out several tweaks from the Internet, all of them had no effect. It is really a nightmare how rapidely the quality control of openSUSE gets lower with every new version. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Turn on TV, HiFi amplifier 2. Boot PC 3.
