The laptop loads the boot screen and even plymouth works properly. Then I get the errors described on the images attached. I tried "Start Using Live KDE CD" and also "Install" during the boot screen. Unfortunately is an error appears makes reading the message difficult. * if one tries to edit the boot parameters of the selected option the opened console has the same issue... gray shadow on green, close to impossible to read. for the second issue a possible solution (found by Ilmentar on irc) is the branding package for grub2 to provide a file like. Yes, I know that one "simply" has to press 'e' to add whatever option one needs, but then one gets the full config file in his disposal! With the current state of accelerated linux graphics drivers in 99% of cases it is either nomodeset or 3 (for runlevel 3 aka text-only boot). The way opensuse had it in previous versions was fairly cool and comfy. Now instead of simply typing '3' one really has to go down 10 lines and very carefully search for the place where the boot options can be added. After that you press 'enter' (as usual) just to find out it added another empty line in the config - emacs style editing! Thank you so much, designers, one has to read all the fineprint these days - press F10 to boot! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: I would expect that whatever major advancements happen to the bootloader (or any other product) its user interface changes only minimally and only when necessary. I see the two errors shown in the attached photos when initrd is to be created (I did not find the messages in any logfile). English translation of relevant lines: 1. /tmp/something/params: Line 16> $'\303\234bereinstimmungen': command not found. 2. grub2-probe: Error: Canonical Path of "fs:/path/to/nfs/root" could not be determined. After a reboot, grub2 drops me at its command prompt. I can then manually load kernel and initrd and boot into the freshly installed system. All the rest works fine. Using the yast2 bootloader module yields the same error. So there is no way to make grub2 automatically boot the nfs-rooted system. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: see details, can probably easily reproduced on any system. In the disk setup step of the installer, choose a partition on the USB stick as /boot and a directory on any NFS server as /. It booted fine thanks to the timeout, though. I installed grub2-branding-openSUSE because I wanted the graphical boot. Same thing. I changed the resolution in "yast2 bootloader" (to 1440x900, the resolution of the screen), same thing. So all in all, grub is unusable for me.
