Finished downloading 11.4 64 bit DVD ISO image on 2011-06-11 at 23:56 USA/ Central time. MD5 checksum matched. Had K3B on 11.3 verify the image burn of the DVD, it verified. Tried to install it repeatedly, on the same hardware on which I've been running 11.3. When I boot from the DVD, it goes into "graphic" mode, I get the "Welcome" screen, then the menu. If I select installation I get the lizard and the progress bar. Then without much progress on the progress bar, nor any input from me, it switches to text mode, goes through the various start up messages, up to the spot at which it's successfully initialized udev, then tries to load the basic drivers. No matter how many minutes I wait, nothing much happens after that. Based on the activity lights, it doesn't appear to be accessing the DVD, nor does it appear to be accessing the Internet. The same thing happens if I ask it to verify the installation media. To hopefully be very sure which version of the ISO I'm using, the output from the file command run on the ISO is as follows. openSUSE-11.4-DVD-x86_64.iso: ISO 9660 CD-ROM filesystem data 'openSUSE-DVD-x86_640024 ' (bootable) I'm naturally hoping that the exact version of the ISO is represented by the "0024". I continued to try to do a graphic install by selecting various video modes of lower res. than the default selected by the install system. Each time, the install hung in the same spot. Finally I was able to install in text mode. Machine is an HP Pavilion Elite m9350f with: + AMD Phenom X4 9850 Quad-Core Processor + 6144 MB memory + NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT graphics card + DVD burner is TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-H653N + Western Digital 1 TB SATA drive as sda + Seagate 750 GB SATA as sdb Hardware virtualization support is enabled because I had hoped to install a Hypervisor. But again, 11.3 was installed *months* ago, and has been running on the same hardware, no changes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download specific ISO image onto *_mature_running_* 11.3 system with *specified* machine configuration, or comparable. 2. Check md5 of ISO with md5sum command. 3. Do image burn on fresh burnable DVD with K3B, while doing that, double check md5sum computed by K3B, have K3B verify data burned onto DVD. 4. Shutdown 11.3 and boot from newly burned 11.4 DVD. 5. I've just recently upgraded my laptop to 11.4. My Desktop is thankfully still running 11.3 and will stay that way it seems. I'm using Kile + texlive (pdflatex) to write a somewhat lengthy document (>200 pages with lots of graphics etc.) With openSUSE 11.3 / texlive-2009 everything worked just fine. Pdflatex per default produced PDF-1.4 documents, which is important. Now 11.4 comes with texlive-2010, which produces PDF-1.5 files per default, but can be forced to spit out 1.4 as well (by adding "\pdfminorversion 4" in the preamble btw.). Old workflow: a) compile all of the stuff as usual (bibtex, makeindex...) b) take the resulting pdf-1.4 (which works everywhere as far as I can tell) and use 'pdfopt' (part of the ghostscript package) to 'linearize' the pdf for better viewing perfromance. c) use 'pdfinfo' to show some info about the file d) test it with old viewers on winblows (acrobat pro 6.0) - works. On my updated laptop: If I take the exact same files (I use GIT, so I can be sure) and run my compile script on 11.4 I get problems as such: a) 'pdfinfo' complains that the PDF is probably corrupt (xref table...), but is able to recover. Same is true for okular and recent acroread. b) acrobat 6.0 pro (winblows) just crashes all the timie. It tells me that the pdf is irreparably corrupt. I tried to test certain passages of said document (images), but I can't pin it down to single files. Several combinations of disabling/enabling them are good, others are bad. What I've found out so far: a) if I skip the step with 'pdfopt' everything is sane and works (with PDF-1.5) b) if I force pdflatex to spit out PDF-1.4, running the optimizer does no harm as well. Most of my graphs were created with gnuplot/svg and postprocessed with inkscape and exported as pdfs. I can try to put together a minimal test case, but that will take some time. Lots of work to do. It appears that the HBA is responding to the host that the device is not connected which is most likely a bug in the driver. We have opened a bug report with Novell on this issue since it is possible an inbox driver issue, however it could be resolved with a standard driver patch. HBAs used: IBM 39Y9190 and IBM 43W3974 (Same chipset on card) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Started IO on each host and ran for 5 minutes. 2. Removed SAS cable from controller A host port. 3. Link state change detected and failover occurred. Ran IO for 5 minutes. 4. Re-attached SAS cable to controller A host port. 5. Waited for 15+ minutes, but failover did not occur automatically. Forced volume re-distribution via host software. Ran IO for 5 minutes. 6. Removed SAS cable from controller B host port. Link state change detected. IOs failed on each host. Actual Results: IO failed when second path was removed. Expected Results: First path should have been detected as returned and fail back should have occurred. This wording issue is really hard to solve. Members or members - you'd have to explain what exactly you talk about each time you mention them which makes it all much harder to read. However, there is good news on the horizon. With the introduction of the Foundation we can give the membership a new name. We should talk about "Foundation members" and "openSUSE members", where openSUSE members just means anyone involved in openSUSE but not necessarily a member of the Foundation. That solves the problem quite elegantly and clearly and I'd be more than happy to ensure the wiki gets fixed. I believe the reason is that the Norwegian Nynorsk (language code: nn) translation file is accidently not included in the package ‘desktop-translations’. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change language/locale to Norwegian Nynorsk (nn) 2. Log out and in again 3.
