I've noticed this with earlier milestones too. also: after 1st suspend/resume (disk still working ok then) a system halt does take *very* long: after "The system will be halted immediately" there are the following ata kernel messages 6 times every 30 seconds (all typos are mine): ata2.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen ata2.00: failed command: STANDBY IMMEDIATE ata2.00: cmd e0/00... ata2.00: res 40/00... ata2.00: status: { DRDY } ata2.00: device repoted invalid CHS sector 0 so powerdown got delayed by 3+ minutes. is this a problem of my sata disk, my old main board, or a generic/known problem? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At first it's all garbled, then I see a piece of the desktop, but the largest part is missing and I can't do anything anyway. The video device is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02) Booting with "nomodeset" works around the problem, however X then uses the fbdev X driver instead of the intel X driver, resulting in suboptimal video performance. The Gnome Live flavor of openSUSE 11.3 worked fine on the same machine, so this is a regression. I don't know which driver was being used back then though. Unfortunately I am not able to tell if the problem is limited to the Live medium, as this is a diskless machine, I can't install to disk for comparison. I'll attach the X.org logs for both the standard boot and the nomodeset boot. I remove quiet and set splash=verbose on cmdline, and get past NIC configuration each time on framebuffer tty1, then the screen goes black, likely when YaST tries to do initial configs, and shortly after all is quiet, with no respose to any keyboard input. I chrooted from 11.3 to zypper dup from Factory repos, but it didn't help. I added /var/log/messages,boot.msg,boot.omsg,Xorg.0.l* into the attachment.
