After adding a printer with the YaST printer configuration the printer can be seen from all applications, including the KDE4 apps, but printing for instance from konqueror, okular, gwenview etc. doesn't reach the printer, although I can choose the pre-configured YaST printer. The print job isn't sent and printer just sleeps. On the other hand, printing from Firefox and GIMP worked out of the box. Let me know if you need some configuration or diagnostic file. Some gnome package installed as a dependency must have caused this which would be a serious problem for somebody who wasn't experienced enough to escape from this problem. After applying the patch from bug 523746 on 11.1 the script /lib/mkinitrd/scripts/setup-kpartx.sh still has problems with such a setup. I'm not sure how the fix should look like in this case. All pages in the wiki concerning "preload" are obviously outdated. Problem: As long as neither the packages "blktrace" nor "systemtap-runtime" are installed, obviously nothing is done concerning preloading (no changes in /var/cache/preload). Both packages are installed by default, but as they are not required by the "preload"-RPMs, they can be deinstalled by the user. Which I did, as I did not recognize any necessity for this packages, disabling the "preload"-functionality (?) without me noticing it. Only a mysterious small error message in the boot protocol gave me a hint. Solution: IMHO the dependencies should be changed in order to require these packages for preload. Ludwig suggested I disable the NOTRACK rules that are put on lo for performance reasons. I did so, and pages loaded fine after this. He suggested I submit a feature enhancement request asking that an option be added to /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 to allow a user to enable/disable the NOTRACK rules. Thank you. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Configure any proxy service on a given port 2. Turn on SuSEfirewall2 3. Redirect all requests on port 80 to that service using: iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports <service_port> 4. Try loading a page -- nothing will load. 5. Disable the NOTRACK rules: iptables -t raw -F 6. Try loading a page, everything should now work. I clicked on O.K and the received an error stating it could not be loaded into resident RAM, however it sits in the system tray, with the resident option disabled. With the resident module disabled, I cannot see any justification for the applet to be present. The Open Office Quickstarter Applet has not functioned since X_64 was released in about version 10.2. I would suggest that it is either fixed or removed from the packing list. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.As Above 2. 3. Actual Results: Error Response - means that the Quick Starter will not load into resident RAM and is therefore useless Expected Results: It gets fixed or removed from X_64 Packing list. It was working before that using OpenOffice doc files. The icon in the systray disappeared and is nowhere on the desktop although python /usr/bin/hp-systray is in the process table. I am using a Office-jet 6110 All-in-One. Most of the hp-(functions) are now broken with segfaults and blowup. When trying to fax, cups does not complain but the following message appeared in /var/log/messages related the fax failures Jun 19 15:43:51 lanya kernel: python[19728]: segfault at 6e54e25a ipb7cf5f5b sp bfd8431c error 4 in libc-2.8.so[b7c83000+13d000] My system is 100% installed and updated with Yast and has no broken dependencies that I am aware of. I tried to uninstall and reinstall hplip using Yast without success. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install hplip utilities, cups and OpenOffice 2. Try to fax using the cups print facility configured for the 6110 hp OfficeJet 3. Nothing happens when print is selected Actual Results: The information above should be enough to reprocuce the error.
